Poltrona Frau at Cologne Design Village for the 2014 Cologne Design Week

Cologne, 13 to 19 January 2014 – Poltrona Frau will once again this year take part in the Cologne Design Fair, opening the doors of its showroom at 6/10 Spichernstraße, which inaugurated last year.

The atmosphere, inspired by the great designer Gio Ponti, strongly recalls the late 1960's. Ponti designed the Dezza armchair for Poltrona Frau in 1965. This was a time of great ferment for the design world and for Poltrona Frau, which that year embarked on its first partnership with this designer of great cultural importance.

The display in the Cologne showroom reproduces the vital energy with which this period is associated.
Products from the new collection come in the colours of the Ponti tradition, evoking a Mediterranean atmosphere. Blues and greens in many different shades and saturations are paired with burnt browns, tobacco and camel beige.

The living room areas show off two creations by Jean-Marie Massaud: GranTorino sofas and armchairs inspired by the world of saddlery where the hand-cut and shaped hide enhances the lines and shapes of the seat, and the Antohn, a large sofa whose structure is lightened by its hidden slender aluminium feet. The Dezza armchair with its Ponti blue and Ponti green structure accompanies each of these.

The Luft armchair will also go on display for the first time in Germany. Designed by Walter Maria de Silva, Head of Design at the Volkswagen Group, in association with Audi design, this latest addition to the Poltrona Frau collection demonstrates a rigorous interpretation and balanced synthesis of the luxury craftsmanship and tradition of Poltrona Frau and the technology and innovation for which Audi design is famed.

The display is completed by a few Poltrona Frau classics such as the Archibald armchair by Jean-Marie Massaud, the new contemporary icon of the brand, and the most recent products from Roberto Lazzeroni: the Bolero table, the Montera chairs and the Mamy Blue armchair, which skilfully combine leather and saddle leather, and the Fiorile coffee tables.

A series of original sketches by Gio Ponti and shots of the Dezza in the rector's office of the University of Padua, another of the great master's extraordinary works, further embellish the display.
