Mini Archibald Anniversary Limited Edition | Armchair

Poltrona Frau Style & Design Centre

Archibald, designed by Jean-Marie Massaud, is a wide and deep armchair with a steel structure, padded with moulded polyurethane foam and polyester wadding for greater comfort. It is distinguished by the pleasantly textured leather upholstery and the folded armrests that resemble a shirt collar. Thanks to a process of digital printing on the leather, usually reserved for small luxury leather goods, Felipe Pantone's artwork gives the upholstery a nuanced palette of reds, oranges, yellows, whites and blues reminiscent of the hot and cold temperatures of a heat map. The upholstery is in Pelle Frau® ColorSphere® Impact Less, the innovative leather tanned with sustainable components and without the use of chrome for a reduced environmental impact.

To emphasize the chromatic vibe of the surface, the base, characterised by four die-cast aluminium feet and a steel frame, has a multicolour chrome finish: a special iridescent paint treatment in colours and light, which gives a brilliant purplish-blue shade. A brass plaque, in the same finish as the base, bears the artist's signature and the words “ONE OF 110”. In addition, every Archibald Limited Anniversary Edition comes with a specific cleaning kit and an exclusive clutch, made in the same   multicoloured leather as the upholstery and containing the certificate of authenticity of the product signed by the artist.

To celebrate this special collaboration, Archibald Limited Anniversary Edition is also available in a miniature size, still upholstered in the same Pelle Frau® ColorSphere® Impact Less leather and made with the same care and attention to detail as the original version.

Concept and Design

Made in just 110 pieces to celebrate Poltrona Frau's 110th anniversary, the Archibald Limited Anniversary Edition is a new interpretation of the iconic Archibald armchair by the visual artist Felipe Pantone. It is an unexpected blend of Poltrona Frau's heritage and manual expertise and the Argentine-Spanish street artist's optical and digital language, vibrant with colours. Inspired by the ColorSphere® palette, Felipe Pantone creates a pattern that blurs the contours and brings the leather surface of the armchair to life. The simple balance of form and the timeless elegance of Archibald are transposed into an ultramodern style.

Poltrona Frau Style & Design Centre

Poltrona Frau, Second half of the 60. In the second half of the 1960s, Poltrona Frau created an internal structure to manage research and development. Whilst preserving the know-how of expert craftsmanship, the Centre for Research and Development experiments with new material, new building techniques and creates new forms. The highly specialised design technicians that make up the group benefit from a superbly equipped prototype laboratory, where they can give form to new ideas. Products and raw material are tested in the Analysis and Experimentation Laboratory, a very efficient structure for the fine-tuning of high-quality products conforming international norms.
