Concept and Design

In the late 1980's Lella and Massimo Vignelli were commissioned to design a television set for the broadcasting of the news. It would usher in a new approach to news broadcasting: rather than simply “talking heads”, people would now be shot full body. The “Intervista” armchair was designed to fit this purpose: an evolution of the bucket-style chair, carefully designed to ensure the maximum comfort of the user and a posture that does not affect their tone of voice.

Intervista is an armchair born from a very precise vision of comfort, posture, and presence. Designed by Lella and Massimo Vignelli, it retains an essential and instantly recognizable character while addressing practical needs related to the way people sit, converse, interact, and inhabit a space. For this reason, it is particularly well suited to those seeking an elegant armchair for conversation, a seat that is comfortable yet composed, and a furnishing capable of conveying authority without rigidity.

In a living room, Intervista performs exceptionally well as a conversation chair in contemporary, minimalist, or internationally inspired interiors. Its enveloping form makes it ideal for those looking for a welcoming seat for refined living spaces, capable of supporting conversation, reading, or moments of relaxation without visually overwhelming the room. Placed alongside a linear sofa, a low coffee table, or a substantial bookcase, it helps create a sophisticated, intimate, and functional corner, perfectly suited to those who appreciate interiors that feel organized yet never cold.

Its design heritage also makes it particularly appealing for professional offices, meeting rooms, and high-end reception areas. Intervista responds effectively to the need for seating that encourages natural posture and clear communication—qualities that are essential in spaces dedicated to meetings, discussion, and representation. In this context, it is an ideal armchair for professionals, consultants, executives, law firms, creative studios, and corporate environments where comfort must coexist with a refined and measured image.

It is equally at home in hospitality settings, lounges, and reception areas, where seating is expected to communicate quality and attention to detail from the very first impression. In these environments, Intervista is particularly suited to those seeking a leather armchair for elegant waiting areas, a design piece for hotel lobbies and private lounges, or a furnishing element capable of enhancing the overall perception of a space. Its presence is understated yet distinctive enough to leave a lasting impression, especially in projects where the identity of the environment is built through a few strong, carefully designed elements.

Intervista is also a highly convincing choice for a home office or a room dedicated to working from home. For those seeking a workspace that feels both more welcoming and more representative, it offers an alternative to the traditional task chair or a purely decorative armchair lacking genuine support. Its balance of design, ergonomics, and formal presence makes it particularly suitable for those who receive clients at home, regularly participate in video calls and meetings, or simply want a workspace that reflects a sophisticated design sensibility.

The leather upholstery and structural design contribute to an immediate sense of quality, but what truly distinguishes Intervista is its ability to adapt to a wide variety of environments while maintaining a strong and recognizable identity. It is ideal for those seeking a compact yet authoritative armchair, a timeless example of Italian design, and a seat designed to remain relevant and enjoyable over time, both aesthetically and in everyday use. Whether in a contemporary apartment, a professional office, or a refined contract setting, it creates continuity between function, comfort, and image.

Intervista resonates particularly well with individuals who appreciate modernist design, clean lines, strong formal logic, and furnishings that do not rely on dramatic gestures to stand out. It is an armchair suited to those who favor understated yet intelligent forms, controlled and composed comfort, and seating that enhances human interaction, whether in residential or professional settings.

For anyone designing a conversation area, an intimate living room, a reception space, or an executive office, Intervista can become an exceptionally effective solution. It is the ideal choice for those seeking an armchair that encourages dialogue, an elegant presence for professional or residential environments, and a design piece that combines ergonomics, design culture, and material refinement.
