The Chedi Hegra

Located within the archaeological site of Hegra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, The Chedi Hegra is a one-of-a-kind hospitality destination that blends modern elegance with Nabataean heritage. The project was designed by Giò Forma in collaboration with Black Engineering, and developed with the operational support of GHM Hotels.

The property features 35 rooms and villas seamlessly integrated into the surrounding desert landscape, with a design approach focused on preservation and light intervention, developed in close consultation with UNESCO. Among its signature elements are the restored Locomotive 964, now featured in the “Prima Classe” dining space, and the Shadow Canopy (Lamellae), a 700-meter sculptural installation that links the buildings across the site.

For the design and realization of the upholstered elements, Giò Forma selected Poltrona Frau for its artisanal excellence and ability to deliver bespoke solutions rooted in context. Poltrona Frau contributed custom leather pieces, specifically crafted to reflect the architectural vision of the project—combining timeless design, high-end materials, meticulous detailing, and deep respect for the cultural and natural landscape.

The Chedi Hegra sets a new standard for cultural hospitality in Saudi Arabia, where craftsmanship, architecture, and memory come together in an immersive and refined experience.

Through this collaboration, Poltrona Frau and Giò Forma demonstrate a shared vision of context-driven and conscious design: projects that honor the past, interpret the present, and inspire the future.
