Mesa | Round table

Lella and Massimo Vignelli

The Mesa table has a Ligurian slate top which, thanks to the traditional splitting technique, maintains the rock’s natural grooves and lines on the surface. A lower shelf in burnished steel sheet metal provides further stability and resistance. The load bearing column is in grey pietra serena with a plastic shaped tip inserted in the base. The joint between the top and the column is made of tubular burnished steel to which a three-bracket joint plate is attached so it is possible to alter the position of the top.

Concept and Design

An icon of formal purity designed in 1985 by Lella and Massimo Vignelli and now re-released by Poltrona Frau. The Mesa table is formed by combining two simple geometric shapes, a circle and a cone. The result is a strong and tangible, almost sculptural table, but with a lightness that comes from the simplicity of the design.
