Concept and Design

In Marathi, Satyendra Pakhalé’s mother tongue, Assaya means “provide comfortable support” or “create a pleasant sentiment”, but also “analyse” or “assess”. The designer’s inspiration for this collection (armchair, pouf and side table) is our increasingly connected world where the boundary between the domestic space and the workplace is increasingly blurred.

The Assaya Ottoman by Poltrona Frau, designed by Satyendra Pakhalé, is much more than a simple pouf: it is a design furnishing accessory created to meet the needs of those who live and work in contemporary, fluid, ever-evolving environments.

Its sculptural design and the possibility of combining precious materials such as saddle leather, Frau® leather, and high-end fabrics make it a versatile and refined object, able to adapt to a wide range of contexts and styles. This pouf finds its ideal placement alongside the Assaya armchair, yet it can be used with any design seat to provide comfortable support for the feet, or as an extra seat in modern living rooms, open-plan spaces, home offices, or creative studios.

In a domestic setting, the Assaya Ottoman becomes an ally for relaxation, reading, or meditation, while in a professional or contract environment—such as corporate lounges, waiting areas, architects’ or designers’ studios—it immediately conveys attention to detail, innovation, and an international design culture. Its multifunctional nature also makes it perfect for those seeking a practical, space-saving solution: it can be used as a footrest, an occasional seat, or a low table to place books, trays, or tech devices.

In high-end hospitality contexts such as luxury hotels, suites, prestigious lobbies, and boutiques, the Assaya pouf helps create a welcoming and sophisticated atmosphere, offering guests a personalized comfort experience. The wide choice of upholstery and colors allows the pouf to blend into any color palette, whether in minimalist, monochrome environments or in lively spaces full of personality.

Visible stitching and the tailored care of details meet the needs of those who want exclusive, customizable furnishings with strong visual impact. The Assaya Ottoman is also ideal for those who like to frequently change furniture layouts: its lightness and compact size make it easy to move from room to room, adapting it to new functions and scenarios.

This pouf is designed for those looking for an accessory that combines aesthetics, functionality, and design culture, crossing the boundaries between home and work, private and public, tradition and innovation. It is the perfect choice for anyone who wants to bring into their home or professional space an iconic object by a world-renowned designer, capable of dialoguing with furnishings of any style and always offering new possibilities of use.
