Concept and Design

The Nymph family of table lamps designed by Sebastian Herkner is inspired by the namesake female deities of Greek mythology: personifications of nature at the service of humans. Based on the notion of a gentle presence accompanying people’s daily lives, comes a blown glass lamp featuring a finely pleated shade, seemingly floating weightlessly atop the leather-covered base. A button set into the lampshade is an ode to the classic leather “button” characteristic of Poltrona Frau upholstery. When lit, the light transforms into a graceful light sculpture of sorts.

Nymph is a table lamp that interprets light as a decorative presence, a balance of materials and a defining atmosphere. Its blown-glass shade, featuring delicate folds and a finely worked surface, diffuses a soft, enveloping glow. Meanwhile, the base upholstered in Pelle Frau ColorSphere leather, with contrasting stitching and brass details, transforms the lamp into a true furnishing accessory that adds character even when switched off.

The bedroom is its most natural setting, where it perfectly meets the needs of those seeking intimate, relaxing light for the evening. Placed on a bedside table or a side table, Nymph creates a cocooning atmosphere, ideal for reading a few pages before bed, slowing down after a busy day or making the room feel more inviting and sophisticated. In this setting, the dimmer function is particularly useful for anyone looking for soft, unobtrusive lighting that can be easily adjusted to suit different activities and moments.

In the living room, this lamp is ideal for those who want to create layered lighting that feels more personal and less uniform than relying solely on a central light source. Positioned on a console, sideboard, side table or beside an armchair, it helps define a warmer, more lived-in corner. It is an especially compelling choice for anyone wishing to enhance smaller areas of the home with decorative lighting that makes architectural volumes feel more welcoming and the materials within the space appear more refined. The combination of leather, glass and brass makes it perfect for interiors that explore sophisticated contrasts between soft surfaces, transparency and warm metals.

Nymph also works beautifully in lounge areas, private studies and executive-style home offices, particularly where a discreet yet distinctive lighting presence is preferred. On an elegant desk, for example, it is not conceived as a purely functional task lamp, but as an object that supports work with visual comfort and aesthetic appeal. It is therefore particularly well suited to those who want a more considered, less impersonal home workspace, where lighting also helps establish style and atmosphere.

In hospitality and contract projects, Nymph finds a natural place in suites, waiting areas, private lounges and reception spaces where lighting should convey calm, quality and attention to detail. In these settings, it is ideal for creating a warmer, more memorable spatial experience while avoiding standardised solutions. Its compact yet distinctive form makes it an excellent way to add personality to console surfaces, bedside tables and occasional tables without overwhelming the interior with bulky elements.

Stylistically, Nymph is particularly well suited to contemporary, soft-luxury and modern-classic interiors, as well as spaces where the tactile quality of materials is central to the design concept. It sits naturally alongside upholstered beds, leather armchairs, light or dark wood furniture, marble surfaces, darkened metals and neutral or deeper colour palettes. For anyone designing a sophisticated yet welcoming room, this lamp offers a way to combine material warmth with visual lightness, creating a discreet presence that remains instantly recognisable.

Nymph is designed for those seeking more than a table lamp: it is an object that expresses a distinct sensibility, a love of detail, an appreciation of atmosphere, a preference for noble materials and a desire for lighting that accompanies everyday life with elegance. It is an ideal choice for those who want to furnish with light, appreciate intimate and carefully composed interiors, and consider lighting an essential element in defining the identity of a space.
