Concept and Design

Ren is a symbolic reference to the centrality of human beings in interior design. Armchair, sofa and a complete collection of furniture accessories inspired by the Chinese ideogram “ren”, which means “person”.  The longer stroke sticks out slightly and is supported by the shorter stroke: a symbol, pure and simple, that transforms into an original design element characterising the profile of every object. When designing the elements in this series, Neri & Hu sought to maximise their versatility and adaptability to different spaces, giving people the chance to create welcoming homes with the utmost freedom. In fact, they can be used in the entrance hall, living room, bedroom, bathroom and study, but are also perfect for non-domestic spaces such as meeting rooms or waiting areas. All of the objects are made of wood, brass and saddle-leather: fine materials that are showcased thanks to the simplicity of the design.

The Ren vanity by Poltrona Frau, designed by Neri&Hu, is a furnishing piece that naturally combines personal care, everyday organization, and writing in a single essential and sophisticated object. More than a simple vanity, it is a small piece of domestic architecture designed to offer intimacy, visual lightness, and discreet functionality. Its solid wood structure, brass details, leather-covered top, adjustable mirror, and storage trays make it particularly suitable for those looking for a piece of furniture capable of accompanying daily rituals with elegance.

The Ren vanity is ideal for people who want to create a personal corner dedicated to getting ready, self-care, and keeping their most intimate belongings organized, without giving up an aesthetic consistent with high-end interior design. In the bedroom, it can become the place where one gets ready in the morning or slows down in the evening, keeping small accessories, jewelry, fragrances, and everyday items close at hand. The adjustable round mirror and integrated storage compartments make the experience more orderly and intimate, making it suitable for those who value not only function but also ritual.

Thanks to its compact proportions and lightweight design language, the Ren vanity is also particularly well suited to people looking for multifunctional furniture for spaces that are not necessarily large. It can fit into a primary bedroom, a private suite, a dressing area, or even a corner of the living room or study, wherever a small elegant station is needed for writing, placing personal items, or organizing accessories. Sources specifically highlight this versatility of use across different settings, from the entrance hall to the living room, from the bedroom to the bathroom, and even the study.

This piece of furniture is particularly suitable for people who appreciate hybrid objects capable of changing function without losing their identity. The leather-covered top can be used as a vanity surface, but also as a small writing desk for taking notes, reading, working for short periods, or simply placing whatever is needed during the day. It is a convincing solution for those who want to avoid overly specialized or bulky furniture and instead prefer more fluid elements, suitable for a contemporary home where functions naturally overlap.

From an aesthetic point of view, the Ren vanity is ideal for people who love minimalist yet warm interiors, where clean lines are enriched by authentic materials and carefully considered details. Canaletto walnut or natural ash, combined with leather and brass, create a sophisticated presence that never feels cold, making it perfect for bedrooms in neutral tones, spaces with subtle wall paneling, and palettes of sand, leather, taupe, warm gray, or dark woods. It is an object that does not need decorative excess to stand out: its value emerges through the quality of its surfaces, proportions, and precision of detail.

The Ren vanity can also be very appealing to people who want to maintain visual order while managing many small personal items. The integrated trays and containers help organize accessories, products, and everyday tools neatly, avoiding the scattered effect that often develops on exposed surfaces. This makes it suitable for those who appreciate curated, composed, and quiet spaces where everything has a precise place and even the simplest gestures can be accompanied by a sense of harmony.

The Ren vanity is suitable for people seeking a premium piece of furniture even in spaces where every inch needs to be carefully optimized. In a well-designed bedroom, it can become a point of balance between the bed, wardrobes, decorative lighting, and textiles, completing the whole with a refined and personal touch.

In high-end hospitality settings, this vanity can fit naturally into suites, private rooms, or formal spaces, meeting the needs of those who want to offer a more curated, intimate, and refined stay. A vanity of this kind communicates attention to the guest’s rituals and to the quality of time spent in the space, transforming a practical need into a distinctive feature of the interior.

The Ren vanity is therefore an ideal choice for those looking for a piece of furniture capable of combining beauty, function, and intimacy in a measured way. It is designed for people who want an orderly, elegant, and versatile personal space in which to get ready, write, store small objects, or simply pause for a few minutes. In this balance between everyday ritual and design quality, the vanity becomes something more than a furnishing accessory: a small domestic place dedicated to oneself.
