Concept and Design

The Parka modular seating range, designed by the duo Draga & Aurel, pays homage to a classic ‘90s streetwear clothing item, typical of the US grunge culture and now a symbol of an entire generation. Just like the legendary garment, Parka is a passe-partout sofa that fits any style and is extremely versatile, despite having a strong personality. Its soft profile and generous volumes, upholstered all the way to the floor, promise comfort and relaxation. The unusually oval-shaped backrest, which gradually and seamlessly morphs into an armrest and then a seat, creates a concave or convex shape, bold and at the same time inviting, effortlessly adapting to different styles with nonchalance.

Drawing on a shared artistic background and a professional journey spanning the realms of fashion, music, and craftsmanship, Draga Obradovic and Aurel K. Basedow are the founders of the multidisciplinary studio and atelier bearing their names, active in Como since 2007.

Art and design in Draga & Aurel follow two parallel and complementary paths, in a continuous dialogue that strengthens and sometimes overturns their meanings. Considered pioneers of upcycling in the design sector, Draga & Aurel are now among the most appreciated names in the collectible field, and their handmade pieces are exhibited and distributed by some of the most prestigious international galleries. Design production is complemented by Aurel K. Basedow's artistic production: powerful, evocative, and poetic works. The same artistic approach to materials is applied in the design of furniture pieces designed for some of the most important and visionary Made in Italy design companies. Draga & Aurel love fashion, vintage taste, and embracing lines. Passions that are fully expressed in their first project for Poltrona Frau, Parka, a modular seating system that pays homage to a great 1990s Streetwear classic, which the grunge culture in America and the paninaro culture in Italy turned into the symbol of a generation. Like the iconic coat, Parka is a sofa as bold as it is welcoming, as understated as it is refined, extremely versatile: a passe-partout that adapts to every look and environments with strong personalities.

Draga & Aurel are among the most influential names in design according to Architectural Digest and have been selected for the third consecutive year in the AD100 review. Their projects have been included in the ADI Design Index and have received the prestigious wallpaper*design award.

The Parka Sofa is designed for those who want a living space with a strong personality—one that combines deep comfort, visual softness, and complete compositional freedom. Its identity is defined by generous volumes and a design that seems to envelop those who sit within it, transforming the sofa into a true domestic landscape. For this reason, it is particularly well suited to those seeking a modular sofa with a distinctive character, welcoming seating for contemporary interiors, and a piece of furniture capable of becoming the expressive centerpiece of a room.

One of the most compelling aspects of the Parka Sofa is its modular nature. Concave and convex configurations, combined with the ability to compose the system using different elements, make it ideal for those who need a flexible sofa for open-plan spaces, large living rooms, or interiors with unconventional layouts. It is a solution that works exceptionally well in homes where the living room is not simply a place to watch television, but a space dedicated to conversation, connection, relaxation, and a more architectural and free-flowing approach to furnishing.

The elliptical backrest design, which transitions seamlessly into the armrests and seat, makes it particularly appealing to people who favor soft, fluid forms over rigid geometry. In a contemporary living room, the Parka Sofa can become the focal point of a more relaxed, creative, and sophisticated atmosphere, especially when the goal is to move beyond conventional and predictable rectangular volumes.

Parka is an especially compelling choice for those who appreciate a more relaxed and lived-in interpretation of luxury, where comfort is not separate from the aesthetic language but an integral part of it. The upholstery extends all the way to the floor, while the continuity of the forms immediately conveys a sense of deep relaxation, generous seating, and lasting comfort. It is the ideal sofa for those who wish to create a lounge-like environment at home, for people who spend long hours in the living room, and for those who frequently entertain guests and want a seating system that encourages a more fluid and informal form of social interaction.

Thanks to the option of selecting either a full Pelle Frau® leather upholstery or a combination of leather and fabric, the Parka Sofa adapts easily to a variety of stylistic preferences. In leather, it takes on a more sculptural, assertive, and representative character, making it ideal for those seeking a statement sofa for a sophisticated living room. In a leather-and-fabric combination, it offers a softer, more dynamic, and tactile experience, perfect for those who desire a large designer sofa with added warmth and texture. This versatility makes it particularly attractive to those who approach interior design through textures, colors, and atmosphere rather than function alone.

The Parka Sofa performs beautifully in lofts, contemporary apartments, penthouses, open-plan homes, and living spaces with generous proportions, but it is equally effective in high-end hospitality and contract environments. In lounges, suites, prestigious reception areas, and sophisticated communal spaces, it responds to the need for creating islands of comfort with a strong visual presence, capable of organizing space in a fluid and memorable way. It is particularly suited to those seeking a sofa that can furnish a room almost on its own, defining the character of the environment with immediate impact.

In terms of the people it appeals to, Parka resonates strongly with those who appreciate contemporary interiors with a creative or fashion-oriented sensibility, those who want a statement sofa without rigidity, and those who seek a balance between experimental design and authentic comfort. It is a highly coherent choice for individuals who enjoy standing apart, who appreciate furnishings with a less conventional aesthetic language, and who envision the living room as a space to be experienced in a free, informal, and deeply personal way.

This sofa is also especially interesting for those who wish to create a more social living environment, where the arrangement of seating encourages conversation rather than simply facing a television or focal point. Its concave and convex forms help foster more dynamic relationships between people and between the sofa and the surrounding space. As a result, it is particularly suitable for those seeking an environment that feels more open to interaction, softer in movement, and less constrained by traditional layouts.

The Parka Sofa is therefore a particularly compelling solution for anyone looking for a modular seating system with strong visual impact, generous and informal comfort for the living room, and a piece of furniture capable of blending softness, modularity, and personality into a truly distinctive presence.
