Poltrona Frau opens a new monobrand store in Hangzhou

03 July 2025

Poltrona Frau strengthens its presence in China by opening, together with long-standing local partner For D., a new monobrand store in Hangzhou, in the heart of the prestigious For D. Fu Street design district. An immersive space that merges the excellence of Italian craftsmanship with a contemporary design vision.

Developed by For D. Group, For D. Fu Street is a modern riverside destination fusing Italian design, local heritage, and visions of future living. It hosts the country’s highest concentration of Italian furniture brands, both in flagships and stand-alone boutiques.

As one of the first luxury Italian brands to settle here, Poltrona Frau debuts within a prestigious 15,000-square-meter design district that hosts a curated selection of leading international brands, offering a “world within a store” sensory experience that showcases its iconic leather heritage and timeless design ethos.

Conceived in accordance with Michele De Lucchi’s retail concept, the store moves beyond traditional retail display, embracing an experiential journey through different collections. Visitors are invited to explore a sequence of living environments—including dining, living, home office, and bedroom spaces—with special attention given to the home cinema area, a category that has seen growing interest in response to recent lifestyle trends.

Among the highlights is the China debut of the Blisscape modular sofa by Ludovica Serafini + Roberto Palomba, part of the 2025 The Five Seasons Collection, defined by its relaxed elegance and exceptional comfort.

Also debuting in Asia is the Squash Collection by British artist and designer Faye Toogood, presented through the immersive installation A Squashed Space—a dreamlike setting where leather, structure, and emotion interact, reimagining the dialogue between sculptural forms and space. The space is further enriched by a selection of Ceccotti Collezioni pieces, including the iconic DUO collection by Roberto Lazzeroni, co-created with Poltrona Frau. At the store entrance, four legendary armchairs—1919, Vanity Fair, Sanluca, and Dezza—illustrate the evolution of Poltrona Frau’s design since 1912.

On July 1st, the Hangzhou store also hosted a special design forum discussing design, craftsmanship, and future trends, reinforcing the dialogue between Italian aesthetics and local culture. Moderated by journalist Yan Mi, the talk featured Nicola Coropulis, CEO of Poltrona Frau, Tony Lu, Founder of For D. Group, and Roberto Palomba, Co-founder of Palomba Serafini Associati Studio.
