Designed by Richard Meier & partners Architects for the Getty Museum in Los Angeles, the West Coast chair combines its rigid wooden shell and the formal rigour of its sides with the soft cushions of the seat for an elegant and contemporary look.
Specifications: The West Coast has a wooden backrest and sides and sits directly on the floor. Wooden underseat panel and padding in non-deforming fire-resistant polyurethane. Automatic tip-up seat with joints in noise-damping nylon. Possibility of fitting a foldaway writing table in the sides. Upholstery in Pelle Frau® leather from the Color System, fabric or velvet, entirely handmade. Installed in rows using metal bases finished with epoxy powder paint concealed inside the sides.
Richard Meier earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Cornell University in 1957, worked for Skidmore, Owings and Merrill briefly in 1959, and then for Marcel Breuer for three years, prior to starting his own practice in New York in 1963.
