Kristine Five Melvær is a Norwegian designer born in 1984. She completed a Masters degree in Industrial Design from The Oslo School of Architecture and Design in 2008, and a Masters degree in Visual Communications from The Oslo National Academy of the Arts in 2012. She then went on to found her eponymous design studio, based in Oslo.

Her diverse interdisciplinary background and field of interest has led to a varied body of work. She moves easily between materials and categories, including tableware, lighting, furniture, textile objects, floor mats, graphic design and clothing design. Her work is often characterized by playful and rich expressions with a strong graphic element and advanced color palettes. She searches for sensuous beauty in everyday objects – the ineffable qualities in an object you would want to keep for a lifetime.
Melvær is working with a number of European brands, designing tableware in glass, wood and stone for leading Belgian and Danish brands, creating sustainable urban furniture produced in Scandinavia, and collaborating with the French fashion industry. Melvær has been key in defining new Norwegian design through her longterm collaborations with a selection of national brands.

Melvær has won an extensive list of awards within both her disciplines, amongst them the ICFF Editor’s awards, German Design Awards, NYCxDesign Awards, Riedel Award, Scheiblers Award and several Bo Bedre Design Awards, including Designer of the Year 2019. She has exhibited her work in cities like Milan, New York, Tokyo, Berlin, London, Venice, Kortrijk, Prague and Washington. Her work is incorporated in collections of The National Museum of Norway and the Vitra Haus in Weil am Rhein.
