The wall-mounted version of the Lloyd bookcase features shelves made of oak-veneered HPL laminate. The vertical uprights are made of medium-density fiberboard covered in saddle leather, while the sides are enclosed by fixed screens made of solid oak. The wall-mounted version features sliding screens only on the front, while the back, which rests against the wall, is enclosed by an MDF panel whose inner surface (back panel) can be covered in saddle leather. The solid oak sliding screens move along tracks cut into the shelves and are fitted with plastic “glides” to reduce friction. The feet are made of steel.

Concept and Design

With the Lloyd storage units and bookcases, Jean-Marie Massaud has designed an entire system with variable geometry, offering an extensive range of solutions in different shapes, configurations, and sizes. Slender vertical wooden rods form lightweight screens that slide along the entire length on invisible horizontal tracks. Each screen can be moved as desired to create ever-changing sequences. A shifting composition of solids and voids, light and shadow. A sensual interplay that offers glimpses of the contents—books and objects—without revealing them completely. Cutting-edge technology meets traditional materials, wood and leather, to create a solid, essential structure.
