Mirabell | Sofa

GamFratesi

The Mirabell outdoor sofa features a powder-coated aluminum frame with an embossed finish. The aluminum frame is especially lightweight, making it easy to move around the outdoor space. Thin metal elements, thicker on the armrests and more spaced on the backrest, give the sofa a rhythmic profile. The seat, back and armrest cushions are attached to the frame with straps, allowing for easy positioning and removal. The seat cushions are made of draining material, with a black polyester non-slip (and non-visible) cloth at the bottom. The back and armrest cushions are padded with staple fiber, which simulates down, and feature a water-repellent polyester lining. The cushion covering is fully removable and available in Pelle Frau® Outdoor Leather or Outdoor Fabric. The sofa is available in various sizes and can be completed with optional cushions in the same covering.

Concept and Design

The Mirabell collection draws inspiration from the timeless elegance of 20th-century French metal benches and seats. Painted wrought iron furniture that graced parks or elegant private gardens. GamFratesi reinterprets this decorative spirit with a contemporary, more essential and rigorous language. The seats and other elements of the collection are supported by a metal frame raised off the ground with a double foot. Taking cues from rattan furniture typically used in outdoor furniture, the structure incorporates a series of woven metal elements, creating the illusion of a large suspended basket ready to accommodate plush upholstered cushions or small table tops. This element, with its distinctive supporting curve, serves as the hallmark of the entire outdoor collection.

Designed by
GamFratesi

Stine Gam, Danish architect with a master in furniture design. Enrico Fratesi Italian architect graduated with a master in industrial design. Gam and Fratesi gained experience as architects in architecture studio in Japan and Scandinavia before establishing their own design studio. The studio is based in Copenhagen. GamFratesi’s design takes its creative drive from a fusion of tradition and renewal and in an experimental approach to their chosen materials and techniques. With their dual traditional background, Stine Gam and Enrico Fratesi draw on the classic Danish furniture and craft tradition as well as the classic Italian intellectual and conceptual approach.

Understanding a tradition and addressing it actively in the workshop makes it possible to expand on it. From this cross-cultural substrate they create furniture that respectfully reflects tradition while also featuring unique embedded stories, symbols and associations, often expressed in a minimalist idiom. GamFratesi have received significant awards including Finn Juhl Prize 2015, Elle Decoration International design award (EDIDA) as International Young Designer of the Year 2013, Wallpaper* Design Award as Best interior 2017, Best Designer 2015 by BoBedre, Best Designer 2009 by RUM, Invited as Guest of Honor at the Stockholm Furniture Fair 2014. With their products GamFratesi received final selection Compasso D’Oro, IF Award, German Design Awards and Good Design Awards.
