Concept and Design

They can be folded as required, redesigning any corner with elegance, delicacy and discretion. We are talking about the Plot modular room dividers. Designed by GamFratesi and produced by Poltrona Frau, the Plot room dividers have a simple design that embellishes the home in addition to creating separate spaces and guaranteeing greater privacy. The most distinctive detail of this product is the geometric patterns created using plaited leather. In the Round panels this weave plays with the shape of the circle, presenting various combinations, while in the Square panels the geometric shape is, as the name suggests, the square.

GamFratesi

Stine Gam, Danish architect with a master in furniture design. Enrico Fratesi Italian architect graduated with a master in industrial design. Gam and Fratesi gained experience as architects in architecture studio in Japan and Scandinavia before establishing their own design studio. The studio is based in Copenhagen. GamFratesi’s design takes its creative drive from a fusion of tradition and renewal and in an experimental approach to their chosen materials and techniques. With their dual traditional background, Stine Gam and Enrico Fratesi draw on the classic Danish furniture and craft tradition as well as the classic Italian intellectual and conceptual approach. Understanding a tradition and addressing it actively in the workshop makes it possible to expand on it. From this cross-cultural substrate they create furniture that respectfully reflects tradition while also featuring unique embedded stories, symbols and associations, often expressed in a minimalist idiom. GamFratesi have received significant awards including Finn Juhl Prize 2015, Elle Decoration International design award (EDIDA) as International Young Designer of the Year 2013, Wallpaper* Design Award as Best interior 2017, Best Designer 2015 by BoBedre, Best Designer 2009 by RUM, Invited as Guest of Honor at the Stockholm Furniture Fair 2014. With their products GamFratesi received final selection Compasso D’Oro, IF Award, German Design Awards and Good Design Awards.

The Plot room divider by Poltrona Frau, designed by GamFratesi, is a furnishing element that interprets the concept of dividing spaces in an elegant, light, and highly decorative way. More than a simple partition, it is capable of introducing visual privacy, spatial definition, and material richness without weighing down the environment. The modular structure, available in two-, three-, or four-module versions, is paired with woven Pelle Frau leather panels that create distinctive geometric patterns, either round or square, transforming the divider into a striking yet restrained presence.

The Plot room divider is particularly suitable for people who live in large or fluid spaces and want to organize the different functions of the home more effectively without resorting to fixed walls. In an open-plan space, for example, it can help distinguish the conversation area from the dining area, partially screen a reading corner, or create a softer transition between the entrance and the living room. This makes it an ideal solution for those who want greater spatial definition while preserving light, continuity, and a sense of visual openness.

In contemporary homes where spaces are multifunctional, the Plot room divider responds well to the needs of people who have introduced a work area into the home and want to make it feel more private and orderly. It can be used to separate a desk from the living area, screen a workstation during video calls, or define an operational zone without permanently altering the structure of the room. Some sources specifically highlight this flexibility of use in today’s hybrid domestic environments, where work, relaxation, and everyday life coexist within the same space.

From an aesthetic point of view, the Plot room divider is ideal for people who see a partition not as a technical object, but as a true piece of furniture. The woven leather introduces texture, rhythm, and depth, while the aluminum structure with refined finishes creates a balance between graphic lightness and material quality. It works especially well in sophisticated interiors, where every object contributes to the overall composition of the space and where even accessories are expected to play an architectural as well as practical role.

The Plot room divider can be particularly appealing to people who want to create small, intimate areas within large rooms. In a spacious living room, it can visually shield a chaise longue or reading chair; in a bedroom, it can introduce a discreet separation between the sleeping area and the wardrobe area; while in a suite or hospitality setting, it can help create a more enveloping and private atmosphere. In all these cases, it does not interrupt the space sharply, but filters it elegantly, allowing light and a sense of the surrounding environment to pass through.

Modularity is one of the most interesting aspects of the design. The Plot room divider adapts to different needs thanks to the possibility of choosing multiple modules and different configurations, making it suitable for people who want flexible furniture that can change along with the home. This characteristic is especially valuable in contemporary apartments, lofts, second homes, or contract spaces where needs may evolve over time and where the definition of different areas is not always permanent. The fact that the panels can fold and articulate makes it easy to alter the perception of the space, increasing or reducing the level of screening depending on the context.

From a color and material standpoint, the Plot room divider works particularly well in interiors that seek a refined dialogue between leather, wood, metal, and sophisticated tones. The predefined color combinations of the woven bands make it possible to choose either more tone-on-tone solutions or more contrasting ones, always with a highly controlled and decorative result. This makes it suitable for spaces with neutral palettes, earthy tones, dusty greens, deep browns, or more graphic interiors, where the divider can become a sophisticated accent that brings movement to the overall composition.

In hospitality and professional settings, the Plot room divider finds a natural place in lounges, lobbies, suites, waiting areas, private offices, and executive environments. Here, it responds to the needs of people who want to define more private areas while maintaining a welcoming and non-rigid image. Unlike a solid partition wall, it offers a softer form of separation that is more consistent with interior projects focused on comfort, elegance, and perceptual continuity. For this reason, it can be a particularly successful choice in spaces where the aim is to convey a sense of care, privacy, and design quality.

The Plot room divider is therefore a suitable solution for those who want to shape space in a freer and more sophisticated way, with a furnishing element that does more than simply divide: it also helps build the identity of the environment. It is designed for people who seek light privacy, visual order, and decorative value in the same object, and who appreciate the possibility of redefining the home through discreet yet effective design gestures. In this sense, it is a divider that responds to very contemporary needs: living better in open spaces, making them more versatile, and at the same time more personal.
