Concept and Design

Ren is a symbolic reference to the centrality of human beings in interior design. Armchair, sofa and a complete collection of furniture accessories inspired by the Chinese ideogram “ren”, which means “person”.  The longer stroke sticks out slightly and is supported by the shorter stroke: a symbol, pure and simple, that transforms into an original design element characterising the profile of every object. When designing the elements in this series, Neri & Hu sought to maximise their versatility and adaptability to different spaces, giving people the chance to create welcoming homes with the utmost freedom. In fact, they can be used in the entrance hall, living room, bedroom, bathroom and study, but are also perfect for non-domestic spaces such as meeting rooms or waiting areas. All of the objects are made of wood, brass and saddle-leather: fine materials that are showcased thanks to the simplicity of the design.

The Ren magazine rack by Poltrona Frau, designed by Neri&Hu, is an accessory created for those looking for an elegant and discreet way to organize items that often remain in view: magazines, newspapers, catalogs, lightweight books, or small objects to keep close at hand. Its strength lies in its ability to transform a very simple function into a refined furnishing gesture, thanks to an essential construction in which a folded Saddle Extra leather pocket takes shape and is supported by brushed steel rods with a brass finish. The result is a compact yet distinctive object, ideal for those who value even the smallest details of the home.

The Ren magazine rack is particularly suitable for people who want to maintain visual order in the living room without completely hiding everyday objects. Placed next to a sofa, armchair, or chaise longue, it provides a neat place for reading materials, art magazines, newspapers, or slim volumes, preventing them from piling up on coffee tables, consoles, or seating. It is a very useful solution for those who want a more composed yet not rigid living space, where everything remains accessible while also being well integrated into the room.

In a reading corner, the Ren magazine rack is well suited to people who enjoy creating a small personal environment around the act of reading and slowing down. Positioned near a floor lamp and a comfortable seat, it can hold everything needed to create an intimate area: magazines, books currently being read, notebooks, catalogs, or even a tablet. In this context, it serves not only a practical function but also helps make the corner feel more complete, orderly, and aesthetically coherent.

This accessory is also particularly suitable for people who live in homes where every detail is carefully considered and who are looking for accessories capable of complementing fine materials and high-end furnishings. Saddle Extra leather, craftsmanship, and metal details allow it to fit naturally into interiors where leather, wood, brass, and textured fabrics play an important role. It is a discreet presence, yet one capable of enhancing the perceived quality of the overall space precisely because it works on a small scale with great attention to materials.

The Ren magazine rack can be a particularly successful choice for people looking for an elegant, space-saving accessory capable of meeting a practical need without adding excessive bulk. It can be placed next to a seat in the living room, in a bedroom, in a study, or even in a well-designed entryway, where it can hold reading materials or small personal items to be consulted or used throughout the day.

Thanks to its understated design language, the Ren magazine rack fits particularly well into interiors that seek a balance between functionality and aesthetic lightness. It is suitable for warm minimalist spaces, contemporary interiors with neutral palettes, and rooms featuring dark woods, natural leathers, satin-finished metals, or brass details. In these settings, it does not appear as a simple secondary accessory, but rather as a small element of stylistic continuity that completes the space and reinforces its coherence.

Its versatility also makes it appealing to people who want to organize not only magazines but also everyday objects that need to be kept neatly and discreetly together. Catalogs, documents, lightweight folded throws, selected correspondence, or reference materials can all find a place inside it, especially in spaces where maintaining visual cleanliness is important without sacrificing practicality. This greatly expands its range of applications, making it useful not only in the living room but also in a private study, a primary bedroom, or a refined waiting area.

In professional and hospitality settings, the Ren magazine rack can be naturally incorporated into lounges, waiting rooms, executive offices, carefully designed reception areas, and high-end suites. Here, it meets the needs of those who want to offer order, hospitality, and attention to detail even through the smallest accessories. A magazine rack of this kind helps create a more orderly and sophisticated experience, showcasing printed materials, brochures, magazines, or selected reading materials in a way that is consistent with the overall image of the space.

The Ren magazine rack is therefore an ideal solution for those who want an accessory capable of doing a great deal with very little: gathering, simplifying, organizing, and decorating at the same time. It is designed for people seeking discretion, material quality, and everyday usefulness in a single object, transforming an ordinary function into a highly elegant design detail.
