Aida | Armchair

Roberto Lazzeroni

As with the classic items from the Poltrona Frau archives, the spring system of the seat, made of seasoned beechwood and birch plywood, consists of hand-tied steel biconical springs attached to jute belts. In line with the latest technologies, the backrest shell and seat padding are in moulded polyurethane foam. Alongside the version entirely in Pelle Frau® leather, the Aida armchair can also pair a Pelle Frau® leather exterior surface with a fabric inside surface. Another alternative combination is Cuoio Saddle Extra leather for the shell and Pelle Frau® leather or fabric for the inside surface. The Aida armchair is available in both a fixed and swivel version.

Concept and Design

Aida, armchair and swivel armchair, has a soft and graceful design that brings to mind the corolla of a flower. In fact, its armrests open and curve outwards like petals. When designing Aida, Roberto Lazzeroni combined classic construction techniques with contemporary materials and expedients.

The Aida armchair by Poltrona Frau, designed by Roberto Lazzeroni, is a soft sculptural piece created to bring character to any interior. Its profile recalls a flower corolla, with armrests that open like petals—an elegant gesture that invites relaxation and serves as a bridge between contemporary design language and mid-century inspirations. The handcrafted internal construction features a system of hand-tied biconical springs mounted on jute webbing, combined with a solid beechwood frame and molded foam for the backrest. This combination delivers supportive, long-lasting comfort, making it ideal for conversation, reading, or extended sitting.

Aida is perfectly suited to prestigious living rooms, executive offices, and hotel lounges. The finishes reflect the finest Poltrona Frau tradition: fully upholstered in Pelle Frau® leather, or with a leather outer shell paired with a fabric interior.

For those seeking a statement piece in a compact footprint, Aida combines restrained proportions with an embracing presence. It fits effortlessly into urban living rooms, open-plan spaces, conversation corners, or reading nooks, adding a focal point without overwhelming the room. Its petal-inspired silhouette creates an intimate microenvironment, ideal for those who desire enveloping comfort without bulky volumes.

The range of materials and color options allows for highly tailored customization. Pelle Frau® leather in classic or more contemporary color families enhances warm, sophisticated interiors, while the combination of a leather shell and fabric interior softens the visual impact and introduces inviting textures—perfect for those who appreciate a tactile, material-rich aesthetic. Saddle leather elevates the architectural character of the shell, offering a crisp and enduring design statement for reception and representative spaces.

In hospitality settings and executive offices, Aida fulfills a variety of needs: it welcomes guests naturally in waiting areas and lounges, conveys authority in executive studies, and enriches suites and lobbies with a discreet yet iconic presence. The meticulous construction—hand-tied springs, carefully selected woods, and shaped foam cushioning—creates a balanced seating experience: neither overly soft nor rigid, but designed to provide stable ergonomic comfort during meetings, reading sessions, or formal conversations.

At home, Aida becomes a reliable companion for everyday rituals, from an afternoon cup of tea to an evening novel. Its base emphasizes stability and visual continuity while maintaining versatility in multifunctional environments. Upholstered in dark leather, it adds depth to internationally inspired living spaces; in lighter tones with fabric interiors, it brings brightness and visual softness to Mediterranean or Nordic-inspired interiors.

In settings featuring natural wood flooring, veined marble, or hand-finished resin surfaces, Aida becomes an element of material continuity. Positioned alongside bookcases, reading lamps, or sculptural side tables, it creates carefully curated micro-scenes that satisfy the desire for a personal corner that is distinctive, recognizable, and effortlessly photogenic.
