The supporting structure of the Vanity Fair XC armchair is made from solid seasoned beech. The padding uses both hand-shaped vegetable horsehair and rubberised horsehair and the seat cushion is in goose down with a polyurethane foam insert to help maintain its form over time. The seat, backrest and armrest spring system consists of hand-tied steel biconical springs attached to jute belts. A row of leather-covered pins finishes the back and sides of the armchair. The upholstery is available in Pelle Frau® leather or fabric. A plate with gunmetal grey or gold finish bearing the Poltrona Frau® logo is attached to the back of the frame.

Concept and Design

The company’s most iconic product, the Vanity Fair armchair encapsulates all of the values of timeless elegance, quality materials and consummate craftsmanship that have made the Poltrona Frau brand a renowned name over the years. Officially called “model 904” but known, since 1984, as Vanity Fair, this seat has become one of the universal icons of Italian design. The project, which first went into production in 1930, has been revamped by the Poltrona Frau Style & Design Centre on the basis of designs that Renzo Frau left his wife, Savina.

To mark the 90th anniversary of the Vanity Fair armchair, the company asked designer Roberto Lazzeroni to revisit it and adjust its proportions to make it even more comfortable and welcoming. The Vanity Fair XC pouf completes the collection. Its curved and organic lines are inspired by the armchair and reinterpret the typical hallmarks of the Art Deco style to make the object a timeless classic. It can also come in a version with practical internal storage compartment.

Poltrona Frau Style & Design Centre

Poltrona Frau, Second half of the 60. In the second half of the 1960s, Poltrona Frau created an internal structure to manage research and development. Whilst preserving the know-how of expert craftsmanship, the Centre for Research and Development experiments with new material, new building techniques and creates new forms. The highly specialised design technicians that make up the group benefit from a superbly equipped prototype laboratory, where they can give form to new ideas. Products and raw material are tested in the Analysis and Experimentation Laboratory, a very efficient structure for the fine-tuning of high-quality products conforming international norms.
