Poltrona Frau inaugurates its first International Museum in Shanghai, located within its flagship store in the Jing’an District. This new cultural hub tells the story of over a century of the brand’s history through an immersive experience that blends design, craftsmanship, and innovation.

The museum explores the brand’s evolving aesthetic and design narratives through a contemporary lens, offering visitors a journey through the brand’s heritage, material research, and design innovation.

The Poltrona Frau Shanghai Museum unfolds across four main areas:

• Brand Heritage Wall, a chronological journey through the brand’s history from 1912 to today, featuring iconic pieces such as the 1919 armchair and cross-generational collaborations with designers such as Gio Ponti and Jean-Marie Massaud.
• Leather and Materials Showcase, where visitors can discover the Pelle Frau^® leather and the Leathership^® philosophy—highlighting the brand’s ongoing commitment to increasingly sustainable materials.
• Craftsmanship Area, celebrating the "intelligence of the hand," an intangible heritage of Poltrona Frau, through small leather goods, traditional tools, and process videos that showcase the precision and care of the brand’s production processes.
• Special Exhibition: A Squashed Space, the first exhibition in Shanghai by British designer Faye Toogood, presenting the Squash collection—a series of sculptural objects that express spatial emotion through the softness of Pelle Frau® leather.

Beyond celebrating heritage, the Poltrona Frau Shanghai Museum aims to be a dynamic space for dialogue and exchange. Through temporary exhibitions, artist talks, workshops, and design salons, the museum becomes an active, participatory hub for both the local and international creative communities. A distinctive element is its co-creation platform, which involves Chinese designers in special projects, installations, and limited editions, with the goal of reimagining modern living through material innovation and cultural exchange.

This opening marks a significant milestone in Poltrona Frau’s global journey. Already present in Shanghai with the Lifestyle Experience Hub—the brand’s first flagship store to embody its new retail concept designed in collaboration with Michele De Lucchi—the museum invites visitors on a multi-sensory journey, with displays meant to be seen, touched, felt, and actively experienced. It is an invitation to rediscover Italian craftsmanship within an international context, promoting a vision of design that creates lasting connections between diverse cultures.
