1919 Ultime Notizie | Armchair

Fornasetti x Poltrona Frau

The 1919 padded armchair, with a load-bearing structure made of solid seasoned beech, is a comfortable bergère with large proportions, hand-covered in leather with a complex workmanship that reaches its climax in the pleated volutes of the armrests and in the famous capitonné pattern of the backrest. In the capsule collection created in collaboration with Fornasetti, the bergère 1919 armchair is covered in Pelle Frau® Leather printed with one of the most characteristic patterns of the Fornasetti archive, the "Ultime notizie (breaking news)" decoration. It is a trompe-l'œil pattern consisting of butterflies fluttering on a carpet of newspaper clippings, reporting news from around the world.

Concept and Design

A seating that made the history of the company: 1919 is a bergère armchair made capitonné leather, in the catalogue for over a century. A classic article that for a hundred years has summed up the very essence of Poltrona Frau. Spacious, comfortable, welcoming, the 1919 leather armchair comes with a classic and timeless design. The "1919 Ultime Notizie" version is the brain-child of the partnership between Poltrona Frau and Fornasetti, another brand known worldwide for the design and decoration of unique and timeless furnishings. Created in 1950 by Piero Fornasetti, his son Barnaba redesigned, changed and breathed fresh life into the "Ultime Notizie" pattern. A playful trompe-l'œil that beckons the viewer to an "active" and imaginative vision: leather looks like paper and the paper had been initially conceived to be printed on silk. The visual lightness of the print is also an invitation to conceptual lightness: “Don't dwell on the news, because the news is volatile".
