Luxurious stitching runs along the entire external surface of the backrest and armrests, upholstered in Pelle Frau® leather. The seat cushions, in turn, are embellished with delicate X-shaped hand-stitching using contrasting thread. The springs of the seat are supported and held in place by a structure of handwoven saddle-leather belts. The blade-shaped feet are made from steel with galvanic treatment and Ruthenium finish. The backrest and armrest panels, made from steel with light polyurethane foam padding, are joined together by visible metal hinges with Ruthenium finish. Goose down for the soft padding of the armrest and backrest cushions. The items of the Clayton collection can be completely upholstered in Pelle Frau® leather or in Pelle Frau® leather combined with the wide range of Poltrona Frau fabrics.

The Clayton swivel armchair has a large, comfortable seat. The 4-spoke swivel base is in steel with galvanic treatment and Ruthenium finish. It is equipped with a mechanism that enables the chair to swivel 360° and return to its original position.

The Clayton series by Poltrona Frau was launched with the sofa of the same name, a sumptuous creation distinctive for its sartorial elegance yet radically contemporary at the same time. The collection perfectly summarises Jean-Marie Massaud’s original design approach, a vision that combines the aesthetic beauty of refined artisan techniques with an in-depth examination of everyday living. The Clayton swivel armchair and bench with cushion represent two further examples of his quest to seamlessly combine timeless elegance with extreme modernity.

Born in Toulouse in 1966, Jean-Marie Massaud graduated in 1990 from Les Ateliers, Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Création Industrielle, Paris. He began to work both in Asia and in France, finally opening his own office in Paris in 1994. Since than, he has dedicated himself to industrial and furniture design, building important relationships with brands such as Authentics, Baccarat and Magis. His collaboration with Marc Berthier and his work in the field of town planning led him towards design and architecture. He is concerned with design in various contexts, industrial products and furniture. His contextual approach centres on research into the essential, within which the individual remains the centre of attention. It is a work upheld by research into the senses, magic, and vital emotion which brings him to work with very different brands: Cassina, Poltrona Frau, Cappellini, Cacharel, Lancôme, Tronconi and Yamaha offshore.

His works have been awarded several prizes and many of his designs are nowadays on show in the design collections of the major museums worldwide: from Amsterdam, Chicago, London, Paris and Zurich: from the permanent collection of the Musée National d'Art Moderne de Paris to the permanent collections of the Museum für Gestaltung, Zürich, of The Chicago Athenaeum- Museum of Architecture and Design, of The Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam and of The Musée des arts Décoratifs, Paris.
